Donn's career has spanned over four
decades, including 25 years as a broadcast journalist with CBS in Chicago where
he distinguished himself as an anchor and reporter for WBBM-AM NewsRadio 780
and a television reporter for Channel 2.
He received dozens of awards
during his tenure with WBBM. Donn was named Reporter of the Year by several
news organizations, including The Associated Press and the Chicago Press
Club.
Donn made the transition from journalist to
communications counselor in the mid-1990s, serving first as Senior Vice
President and then Managing Director of Minkus & Dunne Communications in
Chicago, and as President of Minkus & Pearlman Public Relations in
Northbrook, Illinois.
Today he is President of Donn Pearlman, Inc. in
Las Vegas, and provides communications planning and strategy assistance for
clients nationwide.
Among his many professional accomplishments:
- Created and executed a three-year public
relations program for the sale of more than $120 million of California Gold
Rush sunken treasure recovered from the S.S. Central America, the fabled "Ship
of Gold" that sank in 1857. That project produced news coverage in The Wall
Street Journal, The Today Show, Dateline NBC, the CBS Evening News, and a
documentary on The History Channel.
- Created and managed the worldwide publicity
campaigns for the search and recovery of a long-missing, multi-million dollar
1913 Liberty nickel; the record-breaking auctions of the comic book collections
of Spider-Man co-creator, Stan Lee, and Academy Award winning actor,
Nicolas Cage; the $200,000 sale of the first hand-crafted prototype G.I.
JOE action figure; the $435,000 auction of George Harrisons "Let It
Be" guitar; and auctions items from the estate of Marilyn Monroe, costumes from
Barbra Streisand and the Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Motion Picture Museum
Collection costume auction.
- Wrote the script for a critically acclaimed 1995
James Earl Jones video, "Money: History in Your Hands."

Donn has written hundreds of newspaper and magazine
columns and articles, served as a Contributing Editor to Baseball Today,
Collector- Investor and Numismatist magazines, and is the author of four books
on broadcasting, baseball cards and rare coins. He has been a featured speaker
at conventions in the United States, Singapore and Australia, and is a former
member of the Board of Governors of the 32,000-member American Numismatic
Association.
A long-time member of the Society of Professional
Journalists and former Secretary of the International Press Club of Chicago,
Donn also served on the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau of
Chicago & Northern Illinois and the Greater O'Hare chapter of the Public
Relations Society of America. The chapter honored him with a "Partners in
Excellence Award" for outstanding public relations work.
