To quote Aretha Franklin: R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Am I just being too old fashioned or am I correct that when people solicit me for business they should show a bit of respect?  I repeatedly receive unsolicited emails from complete strangers that begin, “Hi Donn,” or simply, “Donn,” and the sender wants me to buy his/her products or services.

Am I wrong in disliking such familiarity when it comes to soliciting business? Meeting someone in person, and hearing, “Hi Donn,  glad to meet you,” or something similar is fine.  But I believe an unsolicited business proposal message needs to be – well, businesslike.
